In Manipur Marup is a very common word. It represents a socio-economic system in the Manipuri society to help each other in financial needs. Some 10-20 members will subscribe an amount every month and the total amount is given to a member through a lottery draw in every month. Thus the winning member will get an amount that can be used for his/her needs like repairing house, wedding, higher education etc.
